Week 6: 1-minute sound piece

图片
1-minute sound piece      "Music shall fill the air"(McLuhan, 111). It is so true that musics actually come from the air and fill the air. To me, m usic comes from a simple thought and fill my brain with numerals of great ideas. The audio I made was about an emotional transition from sadness to happiness.  There are four parts in my sound piece.1️⃣ The audio I recorded was on a day that I went back to Ormsby from the conservatory, and I recorded the sound on the sidewalk.   2️⃣   I remembered the day was cloudy and chilly. When I walked across the avenue, I noticed that everything was turning yellow .  The wind blew heavily and messed up my hair. I felt winter was  really  coming. 3️⃣ HOWEVER, reading period w...

Week 5: REFLECTION BLOG2

图片
Gina Adams I really appreciated Gina Adams's Lawrence Installation. I enjoyed it very much. I really like her work of basketballs. I remember what she said that each basketball represented historical trauma. It really is. I was surprised that she connected identity with a specific thing, like basketball. This makes me think about how I could relate my creative work with my real life. I did not see the image on basketballs clearly, so I looked up her portfolios . I like the color of symbols and marking that she used on the surface of the basketball. She used many light colors instead bright ones. I was thinking about why she did that, and I think I got the answer in her words. These basketballs included the stories of "unidentified Native Americans whose identities being culture, name and homeland have all been lost". The colors are telling the sorrow, and I also felt sad about those stories that have been faded.  I took this picture outside the Wriston. I saw the shadow b...

Week 4: This Must be My Lens

图片
This Must be my Lens. "The young today live mythically and in depth" (McLuhan, 100).  I love this quote so much. When I take pictures, I love to capture the fragment of an object. I want to see things clearly, so I zoom in to capture it. I felt this would be probably different from the past, because people would more like to see things entirely and  properly. The young today receive too much classified information, so they intend to break the balance. I found myself braver than before when I have a lens. I dared look at the sun. I saw the sun on the water. I saw the sun on the windows. I saw the sun on the bricks. I even stared at the sun, through the lens though.  When sunlight reflects on those human-made objects, they become so attractive.  Every photo in my project has a different soul. I adjusted the ratios very differently so they do not look the same. I adjusted the contrast and hue a lot in Photoshop to make it have strong visual impact. I also stre...

Week 3: the Eye of of the Beholder

图片
1-minute video: the Eye of the Beholder  https://youtu.be/Ku7-N_mdD6I "Everything was dominated by the eye of the beholder" (McLuhan, 57).       Everything starts with this quote. I went to the involvement fair a week ago, and I saw so many organizations on that day. I really appreciated the events. It was fun, and the ice cream was good.      I was intrigued by this quote, so I kept it in mind. When I was standing in the corner, looking at the people, I started to think about if I perceive the  involvement fair in a "beholder"'s view, I might have some different thoughts about this event. I remember there was music playing outside, but the louder musics are, the less people listen. We were all trying to convince others. We spoke louder and louder. But how much did listeners get? Did they really hear what you said? Did they really get what you said?      Then  I was a little bit tired of applying any music to this vid...

Week 2: REFLECTION BLOG

图片
Valaria Tatera  I was  really  impressed by  how real life can be reflected by abstract in particular  how she put spirits into her pieces . I appreciated her use of ribbons. They remind me of “Tibetan prayer flag”, a colorful rectangular cloth, often found strung along trails and peaks high in the Himalayas. Zang and Mongols hang  pr ayer flags  in order to communicate with the nature and their spirits. I was once traveling there, and  I  was completely astonished by the grandeur of nature and human beings. So when Tatera mentioned her idea of “SOUND, MOVEMENT, WAIT” in ribbons pieces, I saw similar expressions which was so informative. Though the piece is exhibited indoors, people bring wind when they get closer to it. I love the soft movement in ribbons.  Tatera  creates a space to  let  every ribbon and visitor  gather together and  listen to the “justice” that they bring to each other .  It was so cool....

Week 1: Come to my world

图片
A new generation is coming  (One of the albums that I listened the most, called  "Go to 2000"  (1999), by a Chinese singer Pushu )      I was born in 2001, which was a year encountered the big transition from cassette generation to disk generation. I have been through those great years from radios to Spotify, from telephones to smart phones and from something unmovable to everything portable. Those past stuffs always remind me of how I was growing up with them, and how my life is changing right now. I'm inevitably thinking about if I'm actively learning about new media or I'm forced to adapt to them. What is my position in this generation? I don't know, but anyways, I am always looking forward to the coming of a new generation. "As we begin, so shall we go" (McLuhan,46).      I cherish all the new ideas.     I cherish all the emotions.      New ideas bring drastic revolutions.      Emotions keep every t...
